The Through Wall Microphone Amplifier (TWMA) is equipped with a flat contact microphone equal in sensitivity to the more fragile, and easily damaged, traditional surface plate pin contact microphones. The TWMA has a selectable four band sound filter that allows the focus of attention to be tuned to the desired range, whilst discriminating against other unwanted background noise. For example, selecting conversation mode (‘CNV’), concentrates the audio output of the TWMA on the amplification of the human voice only.
The equipment has also found a specialist use within EOD and Search Teams due to its sensitivity for listening to mechanisms in timing devices and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
