Postal bombs, whether real or suspect, are an ever-present problem, not only to targeted people and organisations but also to other staff handling the mail.
The major risk to personnel from a suspect bomb is death or injury from the shrapnel effect of an explosion. The Suspect Postal Bomb Container has been designed for the UK government as a container in which a suspect item can be safely isolated. The equipment has been tested to contain the lateral fragmentation which emanates from such devices at an explosive level beyond that experienced to date.
The Suspect Postal Bomb Container has an internally fitted net which holds the suspect item in such a position that removal, x-ray and controlled explosion all remain viable options for explosive ordnance disposal experts. The container is used by hundreds of government embassies and "target" companies' mailrooms worldwide.
